Marina Mascarell
The Thinking Body

This class functions as a laboratory for embodied research, inviting students to engage in task-based improvisation as a method for questioning physical habits, exploring individual creative choices, and developing nuanced physicality.

Beginning with breath work and somatic grounding, the class progressively activates the body through a layered approach that integrates sensory attention, physical rigor, and conceptual awareness. Touch is introduced not as a passive element, but as a dynamic mechanism for opening, aligning, and transforming the body — an active massage that unlocks new physical pathways and perceptual states.

Through structured improvisations, students work with complexity, resistance, and articulation, fostering clarity in decision-making and depth in movement quality. The aim is to cultivate a critical, responsive body that thinks, listens, and moves with intention — one that navigates between intuition and precision in real time.

These classes are in close collaboration with Danish Dance Theatre and we are happy to be able to offer the classes in the Danish Dance Theatre’sstudio.

These classes are held at the Opera:
Ekvipagemestervej 10, 1438 Copenhagen K. You will arrive to the stage entrance, big grey sliding door and enter the reception. We kindly ask you to meet latest 15 minutes before the class, so that it is time to find your way to the studio and register in the reception.

Locus

In this class you will learn and dance phrases inspired by the score that Trisha Brown used for her dance performance “Locus” (1975). The dance phrases take place in an imaginary cube, with 3 levels and 25 spatial directions. With a continuous fall and in balance by extending body parts between different points in space, the dancers turn, curve and spiral around themselves.

The class will start with anatomical explorations and guided free form to set into motion. Followed by exercises such as plié and tendu.

The classes are held in Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen V.

Dansehallerne has an elevator with step-free access to all floors. Accessible and gender-neutral toilets and wardrobes are available on the ground floor.

We kindly ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to class in time for check-in with the QR code on your ticket.

All members can participate in Dansehallerne’s training activities – a year-round program with approximately 5 days of training per week and now also workshops every other week. This is for all professional members regardless of background in dance training, and it is also possible to participate in a drop-in class.

International guests can participate in training for free for up to 1 month. If you have comments or good tips for the training program, you can always send an email to the curators; trainingcurator@dansehallerne.dk

Balletalletallet

We’ll point our toes, fall through space, spiral, and befriend gravity and breath. Yes, we’ll also plié, tendu, sous-sus—all that good stuff. But mostly, we’ll sense, move, and care a little less about form while dancing ballet to a wide range of music. It’s a balletalletallet class—come join! Similar exercises, different music. Marco promises the music will be good.

The classes are held at Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen.

Carro Sharkey
Queer Ballet

This ballet class is a new approach to the technique of classical ballet that centers and uplifts bodies that have often been othered in dance and the real-world through a queer and contemporary lens, letting dancers co-create worlds, fairy tales, and story ballets of their own.

The class works with four principles: Kill the cop in our heads, technique as a tool for longevity, we’re allowed to do whatever we want, and the moves don’t matter.

How can re-engaging with this art form be a practice of joy and resistance in equal measure? Classes follow the traditional structure of a ballet class, moving with our skeletal, muscular, and emotional bodies to find both functionality and space to make wildly imaginative choices.

The classes are held in Studio 3, Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen V.

Dansehallerne has an elevator with step-free access to all floors. Accessible and gender-neutral toilets and wardrobes are available on the ground floor.

Carro Sharkey is a Berlin-based dance artist that will go anywhere for you. Their work has been shown across the US and Europe most recently at Tanztage Berlin, often performing in unconventional spaces such as abandoned slaughterhouses, moving buses, and ball pits. They believe their role as an artist is to blow over a house of cards from 50 meters away. After starting testosterone, Carro found a renewed connection to ballet within a body that aligns with their fantasies.

Kicking back

During these three mornings, I will share my practice rooted in house dance and other street dance techniques. My work focuses on weight and grounding, drawing energy from the floor.

Together, we will explore both personal and collective swing and groove.
Im interested in the complexity of how social dances connects, vibes and intertwine bodies beyond the surfaces. Implies that I´m looking past aesthetics or technique and toward embodied connection, intimacy, rhythm, tension, affect, or even social and cultural meaning.

Through this aspect, I will introduce some of the thoughts and practise that im exploring in the creation of SHOUT, that we will be performing 16th and 17th of September at the Yes-dance biennale at Dansehallerne.

The classes are held in Studio 3, Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen V.

He is rooted in club and street dance styles and works across projects within contemporary dance and performance. Currently, Jens is developing his own practice, focusing on physicality—presence, sensorial awareness, and new approaches to movement—while also challenging genre conventions.

Da Da Dance

The movement practice of “Da Da Dance” aims to provide tools and strategies that support dance as a sustainable lifelong passion and career.
Through drills, improvisations, and creative challenges, we will explore our sense of care, humor, and failure in order to redefine ideas of growth and relevance.
We will begin each session by breathing together and collectively activating the space. From there, we
will dive into a series of guided improvisations and compositional exercises that invite us to reorganize
our physical pathways while welcoming both the absurd and the tender.

Caring for both our bodies and our creative engines, we will connect with the thrill of impossible tasks and physical contradictions,
practicing how to distinguish impulses and desires from trends and imposed aesthetics.
These are classes of bodily Dadaist poetry.

In the buzz

The class is a practice in performing with improvisation as tool and material. Participants practice, both by audience-ing and performing, the listening that is the heart in the work. It is a listening and awareness of the buzz; the vibrations and resonance of bodies, sounds and music in the space. We work from wonder and curiosity, navigating the ever-shifting landscape of the space, constantly negotiating stillness and movement in the instant, and getting to know the dance as it unfolds.
