SVALHOLM
Aftensang

A dance performance for our fellow humans aged 3–6.

In a sensory world of visual beauty and delicate sound, the dancers awaken emotions we all carry within us: longing, love, sorrow, and tenderness. For a fleeting moment, the senses, imagination, and presence come alive, weaving a shared experience through dance, choreography, gentle music, and song – like sinking into a warm bath or being enveloped in a soft, embracing blanket.

The scenography emerges from a bed-canopy universe – a soft, floating, and enveloping space. It’s like stepping into an inner landscape between wakefulness and sleep, where the fabric almost remembers the light of the day.

The lighting design takes on a central, almost breath-like dramaturgical role – guiding the performance through a sunset, into the depths of night, and onward toward the first delicate sunrise.

Aftensang is inspired by the Danish bedtime song “The Sun is So Red, Mother” – the quiet melancholy and gentle security that coexists in that universe. That feeling of being held while something slowly slips away. I hope the light can help carry precisely that transition – from the familiar to the dreamlike.

Nønne Mai Svalholm is the artistic director of SVALHOLM, where hyper sensuous, powerful and visually compelling works are made. Works which awaken the imagination of the audience and set them in a universe that is both vulnerable and touching, and at the same time full of power, courage and deep existential reflection. Isabella Khanamidi is a freelance dance artist, performer, and maker based in Malmö. This marks her third production with SVALHOLM, following her work in Red Flags and BREATH. For Isabella Khanamidi, movement is a way of reflecting on the world. She draws inspiration from human interactions, relationships, and emotions, weaving these elements into her artistic practice. Ida Hørlyck is a versatile freelancer specializing in dance, performance, choreography, and mediation. In her own practice she works most often interdisciplinary – including her work as a curator in the trio ‘Kaellingstenen’. Elias Khanamidi is a dancer and choreographer who has toured internationally with companies such as Ildance and Uppercut Dance Theatre. At the core of his artistry is an enthusiasm for movement, with dance emerging as its precious byproduct.
