Ray Roa

A vigorous flick of tomorrow’s dance!
For the recurring event NEW SH*T, Dansehallerne presents a feel for what is new in the choreographic landscape. This we do by inviting the voices of new younger guest curators. Each curator put together a forward-looking program of choreographers that is inevitable for them, NEW SH*T, the artists of tomorrow!

The guest curator of NEW SH*T Vol 3. is Ray Roa (PH/DK). Stay tuned here as we reveal more about the NEW SH*T program of fall 2021 presenting the artists that Ray Roa curates.

This is the third round of NEW SH*T. The first took place at Edison in the fall of 2020 with the guest curator Thjerza Balaj and the second in May 2021 with guest curator Kalliopi Siganou.

NEW SH*T is an initiative from Dansehallerne to give the audience a unique experience of the dance of the future and to strengthen the dance ecosystem and give the new generation an opportunity to present their works. NEW SH*T Vol. 3 is part of a program where Dansehallerne occupies Dansekapellet Nov. 18th – Dec. 4th 2021 and presents quivering works by three leading choreographers at the Danish scene and the artists of tomorrow.

The guest curator of NEW SH*T Vol. 3 is Ray Roa, originating from the Philippines, raised in the UK, and now based as an independent dance artist in Copenhagen. Ray’s work has a strong visual identity which stems from his Anglo-Filipino background. His practiced research dwells on the spectrum of social realism collecting everyday happenings across a myriad of lived experiences. He is particularly interested in creating work that promotes and challenges social discourse. Ray trained and studied at Newcastle College, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, London Contemporary Dance School, and the Danish National School of Performing Arts. www.roadans.com
