Dealing with the void

In this peer to peer Ella Östlund, newly entered into the freelance dance scene, invites to an informal conversation with Quim Bigas Bassart and Lara Ostan Vejrup about unemployment. The invitation strands from a need to speak aloud about the void that unemployment, or other lack of institutional affirmation, seems to create for many in the free art field – namely the field of dance and choreography. The conversation will attempt to surf the emotional, structural and psychological implications of these voids in our working lives. How do we live with art in the void? Where are the challenges? How are we doing? An invitation for peers to come and converse, and hopefully share strategies and tools to deal with the void.

Peer to Peer is a series of artist-driven conversations focusing on professional sharings about dance, choreography, and its impact. You will meet colleagues in a facilitated yet casual space. Peer to Peer is about getting closer to your community and being curious about what is happening in the field – and with each other.

The invited artists will set the different topics and facilitate the conversations. The specific program for each event will be announced during the season.

We start by meeting for half an hour of informal chat and something to drink. Then we continue with the facilitated part by the invited guest(s) of the day. After the event, it is possible to hang out and continue the conversations.

This season Peer to Peer takes place at Huset-KBH (Balsalen), Rådmandsstræde 13, 1466 Copenhagen K, 1st floor beside Spisehuset

The topic and format are chosen by the invited artist in collaboration with Dansehallerne. How you choose to participate in the conversations is up to you.

We meet approximately twice a month, and the event is in English. You do not need to sign up – just show up.

If you have questions or ideas for the Peer to Peer program please write to Dansehallerne, Anna Katrine Korning, akk@dansehallerne.dk.

Boaz Barkan | Dance and somatic practice with children

Peer to Peer | November 23 | 5 – 7 PM | Huset-KBH

In this Peer to Peer, Boaz Barkan will discuss somatic practice and share his experience of creating an interactive dance performance with children inside their classroom.

Boaz Barkan has invited Anna Lea Ourø Jensen to elaborate on the process of creating and performing Blækspruttetanker, which is part of Dansehallernes KORA-program.

In the process of creating the work, we focused on articulating the connection between perception, sensation, and movement (dance), by using verbalization as a path from conventional to unconventional modes of being in the world and movement. We attempt to create space within the classroom, in which dance becomes a mode of interacting and knowing the world.

Please join us for a nice conversation.

What is Peer to Peer?

Peer to Peer is a series of events focusing on professional sharings and conversations about dance, choreography, and its impact. You will meet colleagues in a facilitated yet casual space, where we share knowledge and are curious about what is happening in the field – and with each other.
During the season, we address different topics, and the individual events are facilitated by one or more invited artists.

We start by meeting for half an hour of informal conversation and something to drink in the café. Then we continue with presentations with guest(s) of the day. After the event, you can continue the conversations in the café, where you can buy something to eat.

The topic and format are chosen by the invited artist in collaboration with Dansehallerne. How you choose to participate in the event is up to you.

We meet approximately twice a month, and the event is in English. You do not need to sign up – just show up. However, there is only room for 40 participants so the spots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis on the evening itself.

In the autumn Peer to Peer will take place from 5-7 pm in Huset-KBH, Balsalen (1st floor next to Spisehuset), Rådhusstræde 13, 1466 Copenhagen.

Further information about the meeting will be communicated in advance on Dansehallerne’s website, Facebook and Instagram.

We regularly collect relevant topics and inspiration for the program, so feel free to send an email to producer Anna Katrine, akk@dansehallerne.dk, if you have any suggestions.
