Official Ceremony & Celebration

Dansehallerne invites everyone to join the grand celebration as we open our new house of dance in the impressive historic building with tall chimneys in the middle of the Carlsberg City District. On this special day, we welcome all to enjoy a cornucopia of international, rhythmic, diverse dance performances, workshops and the atmosphere of the historic building.

The event is free, and everyone is welcome.

This is a unique chance to experience one of the world’s greatest choreographers, Belgian Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker dancing the solo Pioverà. Perhaps the audience will hold their breath when the building is brought to life from the outside, by two dancers moving out from the roof and dancing a vertical duet Breathing from the ground up, on the building’s facade. Let yourself be carried away by a jaw-dropping journey from ritual darkness, through the happy hardcore to the calm collective in a performance by the sensational British-American artist, Malik Nashad Sharpe. Denmark’s House queen, Marie Kaae kicks off with body percussion bringing the audience into excerpts from a modern dance gospel. Nine dancers from the Danish Dance Theatre are on stage in an excerpt from BLOODY MOON created for Copenhagen Summer Dance.

Henrik Vibskov’s dancing costumes will swirl you into the performance Rainbow by MYKA and Ray Roa Alonso for the whole family. Children and their parents can also dance along in three interactive dance workshops facilitated by Amalie Bergstein and Kalliopi Siganou. There will also be a dance cinema, where you can be absorbed by magical dance on screen.

The entire building with two stages, studios, the facade and the area around the building will be bubbling with dance. There will be balloons for the children, drinks and other goodies to celebrate the day with all the guests. You can win tickets to upcoming performances, experience surprises – and learn more about what dance is and can do.

The program will be repeated during the day, so there are plenty of opportunities to stop by, dance along, and explore the dance and the historic building throughout the afternoon.

For a wide spectrum of dancing bodies: older bodies, smaller bodies, bodies of different shapes and colors. For the iconic and the surprising. For other perspectives. OPENINGS is a celebration of dance and an opening for new experiences.
