Somatography is a performance taking place between the real and the imagined, thinking about and embodying propositions for a (future) public space.
Taking its title from the Greek word ‘soma’, meaning body, and ’graphie’ meaning to write, to draw, the performance invites its audiences to a shared experience of writing and re-writing the public space of Sønder Boulevard by means of dance and choreography. This will be done with the help of a map – a tool that shows a specific version of the world – by which the participant is invited to navigate through a molded reality of public space.
Somatography unfolds alongside streets, sidewalks and pocket parks in the public space of a city. It accumulates realities and fictions, narratives and abstractions, from and within different perspectives of a place. It finds itself in a continuous process of translating, imagining and re-arranging, thinking and experiencing the potentialities and possibilities, but also the improbabilities and the impossibilities of a public space. Its bodies are formed by the environment, by every action, reaction, movement, direction and gaze. These bodies appear, disappear and reappear, they detour and through these detours find and tell stories.
Tickets for Somatography are free, but with a reservation fee of DKK 40.
Note: The performance is taking place outdoors at the site of Sønder Boulevard.
The meeting point for the audience will be at Forsøgstationen, Sdr. Boulevard 81, 1720 Copenhagen V.
