Somatography is a performance taking place between the real and the imagined, thinking about and embodying propositions for a (future) public space.

Taking its title from the Greek word ‘soma’, meaning body, and ’graphie’ meaning to write, to draw, the performance invites its audiences to a shared experience of writing and re-writing the public space of Sønder Boulevard by means of dance and choreography. This will be done with the help of a map – a tool that shows a specific version of the world – by which the participant is invited to navigate through a molded reality of public space.

Somatography unfolds alongside streets, sidewalks and pocket parks in the public space of a city. It accumulates realities and fictions, narratives and abstractions, from and within different perspectives of a place. It finds itself in a continuous process of translating, imagining and re-arranging, thinking and experiencing the potentialities and possibilities, but also the improbabilities and the impossibilities of a public space. Its bodies are formed by the environment, by every action, reaction, movement, direction and gaze. These bodies appear, disappear and reappear, they detour and through these detours find and tell stories.

Tickets for Somatography are free, but with a reservation fee of DKK 40.

Note: The performance is taking place outdoors at the site of Sønder Boulevard.

The meeting point for the audience will be at Forsøgstationen, Sdr. Boulevard 81, 1720 Copenhagen V.

The performances will take place 7. + 8. + 9. + 12. June 2022. Be aware that the performance starts at different times of the day depending on which day you chose to participate. On the premiere day, the 7th of June, we invite the audience after the performance to join us at Forsøgstationen for a drink and an artist talk with the artistic team, where they will share their thoughts on Somatography and the mapping methods.

Practical info:

Please be aware that the performance takes place outdoors, so we recommend that you dress according to the weather conditions.

In case of wind and light rain, the performances will take place as planned, but in case of heavy rain, we will cancel. Keep an eye for updates on our web. If you booked a ticket in advance, you will be informed through email too, if any cancellations.

It is possible to be an audience in a wheelchair since the paths on the Boulevard have disability access. But unfortunately, it is difficult to enter Forsøgsstationen in a wheelchair. But please come anyway and we will meet you outside and give the instructions for the performance there. Please let us know in advance so we are prepared.

The ticket- and bar sale will open 45 minutes before the performance starts. In our pop up mini bar, you can buy coffee, tea and a selection of beverages. You can safely leave your bag and jacket here during the performance if you feel like it.

Upon arrival you will be handed a sticker, which will give you access to local offers that can be found on Sønder Boulevard after the performance. The local community is collaborating with Dansehallerne so you as Somatography’s audience, can get special offers by showing your sticker.
