ABOUT THE WORKS AND THE ARTISTS
The Knot by Elisa Zuppini
In The Knot, the body transforms through a tangled series of sculptures, where choreographic knots appear at once formal, visceral, and evocative. Through their dynamic tension, these intricate bindings generate a choreographic motion that embraces spaces external to its writing. Continually redefining its boundaries, the work evokes an erotic dispersal of what resides within or beyond the choreography, ultimately seeking to reorient thought and inspire a reinvention of the continuous affection for the body.
Elisa Zuppini is an Italian-born choreographer and performer based in Amsterdam, who graduated from the SNDO School for New Dance Development in 2018. Her practice explores the intersection of movement, systems thinking, and contemporary philosophy. She views choreography as a form of relational and affective architecture, a system where spatial and temporal elements interact dynamically to generate meaning. Since 2019, Elisa has been a member of Jacuzzi, a collective of Amsterdam-based choreographers, and has closely collaborated with dramaturg Bruno Listoad. Her new ensemble work, Disambiguation, will have its official premiere at Frascati Theater in Amsterdam, in May 2025. www.elisazuppini.com
Ayya Se3al 3arabeh? (What time is the Arabic?) by Sako Dersahakian / Evita Kedavra
Ayya Se3al 3arabeh? is a catchphrase popularized by renowned Lebanese drag performer Bassem Fghali. It refers to the one hour of Arabic music that plays in a DJ set in the only gay club in Beirut. The queers wait all night for that one hour to queen out.
The work is to make clear that queerness and Arabness have always coexisted, and Sako adamant assertion of both identities coexisting together rather than being seen as separate from one another. The work is shown in two small seperate acts (with a duration of 5 and 10 minutes).
Sako Dersahakian / Evita Kedavra is the drag brainchild of Sako Dersahakian, born and raised in Beirut Lebanon, and now based in Copenhagen. Evita Kedavra and Sako Dersahakian are a fashion designer, a drag performer and an artist working at the intersection of Arabness, Queerness, and the Revolution. @biggie.smalla
SHOW&TELL by Ingeborg Meier Andersen
SHOW&TELL is a solo performance dissecting the concept of being/showing/staging a feminine body. Through movement and voice Ingeborg invites the audience inside as she confronts the complexities and chameleonistic tendencies of a staged work life. Or perhaps a reflection upon how multiple postures cohabit one body.
SHOW&TELL deals with the absurdity of the solo format while embracing the sincerity of wanting to show. Lighting a candle for showgirls with second thoughts, given the state of the world.
Ingeborg Meier Andersen is a choreographer, artist and showgirl. In her work, she urges to uphold a hybrid and immediate body seeking to emancipate systems of rigidity and invite humour and rhythm as a source of approachability towards an audience. Ingeborg uses her foundation as a dancer to challenge her restrictions and embrace the unknown. @ingigram
THE CURATOR
Sigrid Stigsdatter is a choreographer, performer and vocalist based in Copenhagen after many years in Amsterdam. Her practice as a maker and a curator for the coming platform at Dansehallerne interrogates dancing as an addictive matter, the emotional, the intuitive, the punk and magic. She explores how resonance created between the performer and the audience can leave us forever changed and how the abstract and poetic can be a guide to create meaning in a world that falls apart.
Sigrid holds a BA in choreography from the School for New Dance Development (SNDO), Ams and an MA in choreography from The Danish National School of Performing Arts (DDSKS), Cph.
ABOUT NEW SH*T
The Spring edition of New Sh*t, Vol. 9 takes place in Dansehallerne’s new house in the black box and it is exclusively for one evening that the handpicked program can be experienced.
With the New Sh*t format, Dansehallerne checks in on what is new in the choreographic landscape in Denmark. Since New Sh*t was launched in 2020, the platform has taken place twice a year.
New Sh*t is a recurring popular platform where new guest curators get the opportunity to put together a progressive program with one or more works by choreographers that the curator believes are the artists of tomorrow!
