A performance for everybody from 8 years and up.
With a background in both Greenland and Denmark, choreographer Sarah Aviaja Hammeken explores the complexity of having roots in two countries. On one hand, it provides a richness of opportunities to feel part of multiple cultures. Yet, one may also experience not quite fitting in anywhere. But what makes one feel part of a community – or not? What cultural references does one carry? And what is it like to not fully understand or master the language, traditions, and rituals of a culture?
In Speech/less, you will encounter two dancers and a musician, and as audience you become part of the performance.
Speech/less has toured extensively in schools and other places in Denmark, Greenland and Faroe Islands.
AVIAJA Dance is a contemporary dance company founded and led by Sarah Aviaja Hammeken, whose artistic vision is shaped by her Danish and Kalaallit (Greenlandic) heritage. The company’s work draws deeply from her Inuit roots, exploring the intersection between the physical body, emotion, and society. Through continuous movement research, AVIAJA Dance creates performances that fuse visual poetry with raw physical expression, capturing both vulnerability and strength.
