Impossible Exhibitions, Imaginable Objects and their Dramaturgies.
Workshop by Riikka Thitz & Emil Santtu Uuttu at the idyllic Kirsten Kjærs Museum in the woodland landscape of Thy.
This workshop with Riikka Thitz & Emil Santtu Uuttu introduces ways of working with the concepts of dramaturgy and dance as tools that aid us in analyzing and reconstructing public presentations of art such as performances, exhibitions, and site-specific works. We look into how dramaturgy and choreography can take on new relevances also outside of the traditional performing arts context.
The workshop takes place from May 23rd to May 26th, 2024, in the idyllic surroundings of Kirsten Kjær’s Museum and the nearby dune landscapes in Thy.
The workshop is the last one of a series of four workshops that aim to inspire artists in their practice and to contribute to a nuanced discussion on dance dramaturgy in Denmark. The workshop series is put together by dance dramaturg Ida-Elisabeth Larsen and is realized in collaboration with DDSKS Efteruddannelse.
The three-day workshop is guided by short presentations, articles, hands-on sessions and discussions. We begin with a general introduction to the history of exhibition and memory institutions (such as archives and museums), and how their different political projects have shaped the arts and their public presentation.
We will then dive into the temporal aspects of the public presentation of art and extend our viewpoint outside of the institution with the help of the concept of landscape dramaturgy. Lastly, the participants will get a chance to outline impossible exhibitions, imaginable objects and their dramaturgies.
