Active ride

We will start the class by tuning into the space, each other, and the body. Marlene will guide you through physical tasks from her “back catalogue” – breathing exercises and repetitive sequences that get the ‘engine going’. Afterwards we will dive into her long-lasting movement practice Body Weather Technique; a clearly structured functional and dynamic training where all body parts will be worked out thoroughly. With a partner we are doing exercises across the floor that challenges our strength, cardio, coordination and rhythmicality. At the end of the class, we will go through stretches that bring us back to the breath.

The classes are held at Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen V in Studio 4.

Getting there
Studio 4 is located to the right on the ground floor with step-free access from the main entrance.

Dansehallerne has an elevator with step-free access to all floors. Accessible and gender-neutral toilets and wardrobes are available on the ground floor.

We kindly ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to class in time for check-in with the QR code on your ticket.

All members can participate in Dansehallerne’s training activities – a year-round program with approximately 5 days of training per week and now also workshops every other week. This is for all professional members regardless of background in dance training, and it is also possible to participate in a drop-in class.

International guests can participate in training for free for up to 1 month. If you have comments or good tips for the training program, you can always send an email to the curators; trainingcurators@dansehallerne.dk

WARMING UP THE DAY / MONSTROUS MOVES

Come start your day with me! These morning classes are meant to be a great way to warm-up the body, enjoy dancing and get a peek into my latest creative process. We will work through practical warm-up sequences, sensing and moving into waking the capacities of the body. Then, as a part of my daily practice, we will dance. Working from different somatic and musical cues we will enjoy the magical blend of rhythm and anatomy. We’ll also take that dance into different improvisational tasks that propose performative states and compositions.

Last but not least, the classes will finnish with explorations of some of the physical material from my previous solo Little Miss Beast Mode and my upcoming work Feral Fantasies. Questions regarding the perception of monstrosity, the human as a performative metric and dance as a solace for alienation will be addressed. I hope to see you 🙂

Bobbi Jene
Morning training

Please arrive at 09.40 for this workshop at August Bournonvilles Passage 10 (A-sals indgangen). It won’t be possible to enter the building after this time. Class starts 10-11.25.

Bobbi Jene’s work explores the intersection of physicality, virtuosity, and desire. With a focus on extremes: delicacy and explosiveness, simple and detailed, personal and political, pain and pleasure. She choreographs situations where we are able to see people behave, rather than perform. Asking artists to execute a series of tasks so difficult that it requires them to move beyond the confines of “performing”. She believes this unfiltered exposure reveals a truth in the body –where dominant and passive are married, and pain and pleasure have equal value.

With her incisive grasp of the human mind, Bobbi Jene Smith is currently a shooting star on the international dance scene. Caldera, a performance created for Corpus, garnered great attention in 2019. Now, she has choreographed an entirely new work for the royal theatre’s dancers, which is set to newly composed music by Celeste Oram.

We encourage you to continue looking after yourself & each other by getting tested regularly, keep distance, keep a good hygiene and arrive each day to practice with a valid corona pass.
