Malik Nashad Sharpe
Hang Time

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Malik Nashad Sharpe returns to Denmark with Hang Time – an explosive dance performance that fuses raw physicality, pulsating music and uncompromising choreography. With seven performers on stage, Sharpe creates an intense world where strength and vulnerability collide, pushing bodies to their limits.

Hang Time is a choreographic meditation on hanging out and hanging on. Hanging in the air. Hanging in there. Hanging by a thread. Braids hanging from the nape of the neck. Bodies suspended in time. Lives hanging from one another. Moving between soca and bouyon, séance, ritual and social gathering, choreographer Malik Nashad Sharpe – working under the alias Marikiscrycrycry – creates a charged world where dance, music and haunting collide.

Drawing on Black and Caribbean histories and lived experience, Hang Time explores grief, mental health and vulnerability within masculine communities. Cornrows and braids become symbols of protection and connection, while the performers carry one another, lose one another and push their bodies through states of exhaustion, collapse and endurance.

At its heart, Hang Time asks what holds a community together in moments of vulnerability and loss – and what remains when someone disappears.

Dark, intense and deeply physical, Hang Time brings Marikiscrycrycry’s distinctive collision of contemporary dance, social dance, horror and fantasy to Dansehallerne for its DK premiere.

BIO:
Malik Nashad Sharpe is a British-American choreographer and performance artist whose work exists at the intersection of dance, music, fashion, and performance. Through an experimental and physically charged practice, Sharpe challenges conventional ideas of choreography and expands the possibilities of movement as an artistic language.

Drawing on Black and diasporic experiences, Sharpe explores themes of identity, belonging, masculinity, power, and vulnerability. Through visceral and uncompromising works, Sharpe creates space for both critical reflection and embodied experience, where personal narratives intersect with broader social and cultural structures.
