In FOAM, you are invited onto a stage full of foam mattresses together with two dancers and the rest of the audience. During the performance, we build a landscape that creates a place for imagination, sensation and participation. Words, dance and music create an atmosphere that intensifies the experience of your own body and the world around you.
We lie in a pile of memory foam, talking about ‘sinking in’. What does sinking in mean? There is the possibility of sinking into a mattress, feeling the weight of the body, surrendering, letting go, grounding. Wondering about the opposite of sinking in, we imagine being on the surface, bouncing off, floating up, jumping, flying.
In this performance for children aged 6 and up and their adults, the boundaries between performers and audience are blurred. Everyone is on stage, creating an ephemeral community of listening and curiosity. Also, the boundaries between body and material are blurred when we imagine our body as foam being reshaped.
The dancers invite you with their eyes, their words and their energetic movements to forty minutes of immersion and companionship. It’s up to you how much you want to get involved.
