Dualities is a technologically innovative dance performance where choreography meets 3D video projections in a visual universe that dissolves the boundary between physical and digital reality. Through hypnotic reflections and optical illusions, the performance explores the relationship between our real selves and our digital identities – and what happens when these spheres intersect and distort one another.
Created through a close collaboration between choreographer Simone Wierød and visual artist Carl Emil Carlsen, Dualities offers a stage experience that invites audiences to reflect on identity, self-image, and the mirrored realities we inhabit – both online and offline.
After talk: Thursday, April 23 / Dualities – Conversation and Insights into the Process
In connection with the performance Dualities, the audience is invited to a special session where choreographer Simone Wierød and visual artist Carl Emil Carlsen open up about the artistic processes behind the work.
Dualities unfolds in the tension between body and technology, where physical performers engage in a dynamic interplay with a 3D-projected universe. Through the use of sensors, a performative space emerges in which the virtual and the real continuously influence and transform one another.
As part of the event, the audience will be introduced to the technically complex world of 3D projection and how this technology is translated into a living scenographic tool in dialogue with the choreographed body.
In the conversation, Wierød and Carlsen will share insights into how choreography and digital image-making have been developed in close collaboration: How is movement translated into data? When does the body control the image—and when does the image shape the body? And what artistic possibilities and limitations arise in the encounter between these two practices?
The event will alternate between conversation, reflection, and examples from the process, offering the audience a unique opportunity to gain deeper insight into the choices, experiments, and collaborations behind the performance.
