Sarah Aviaja Hammeken
SILA

After the period we’ve all just gone through, isn’t it obvious that we all have struggles? That we all recognize feelings of loneliness, and that it’s hardest to ask for help when we need it most? That sometimes, we doubt whether we are wanted and therefore don’t always see the opportunities that unfold in front of us?

It’s time to stop thinking about what hurts, but instead dare to fully sense it. Together.

Join the dancers on a journey which unfolds at the bottom of the sea explore, together, what happens when knotted obstacles and intricacies prevent the pattern of action from being broken.

The performance is inspired by the Greenlandic myth about Sassuma Arnaa (the Mother of the Sea), which reminds us that we are never fully in control. That we, humans, are not made to deal with our problems alone. We must feel, gather, share and dance. We need to sense what it feels like when we are not alone.

Sarah Aviaja Hammeken is the artistic director of AVIAJA Dance, she is educated from the Ballet Academy in Stockholm and works as a choreographer, freelance dancer, performer and teacher. Although Sarah Aviaja was born and raised in Copenhagen, her work is strongly influenced by her Greenlandic roots, from which she finds most of her inspiration. Her choreographic work aims to embody states of mind through visually captivating stage art that question society in both a local and global context, and create space for a magical encounter between artist and audience.
