RIPE BODY is a genre-bending solo performance in two parts: an interactive installation followed by a mesmerising party with live music. The two parts of the performance invite the audience into a feminine universe that is as sparkling as it is carnal. Through the body, choreographer and performer Ruth Rebekka Hansen seeks to put a kaleidoscopic filter on the gendered that both deconstructs and redefines the feminine.
In a four metre high, transparent box with a mirrored ceiling and floor, the body in the first part of the performance is a living flesh sculpture. Wearing towering stilettos, Ruth Rebekka Hansen explores different physical forms in a feminine body that challenges the power structure between the observer and the observed. In the panopticon of the mirror room, the dancer’s and the audience’s gaze is cast back and forth, and the question quickly becomes who is really looking at whom.
In the second part of the performance, Ruth Rebekka Hansen switches gears and delivers a mesmerising, explosive performance to pulsating live music. Musician Lauge Heebøll sets the tones with a voice that embraces both the melancholic darkness and the inviting light. In a landscape of heavy beats and glittering costumes, RIPE BODY invites you to celebrate a femininity that holds more of everything. The result is fluid, seductive and festive.
