Teresia Björk
Finding Tools

Since 2006, Teresia has been working with her own choreographic method, “Finding Tools”, which she also uses when leading workshops or giving classes. The method has been highly appreciated by performing artists at the start of their careers, as well as by already established performers, who want to advance in their development. In this method, the dancer/actor/participant is the focus and is given various tools and tasks to create gradually through movement and other dynamic expressions. Initially, you may expect to receive a warm-up for the body and voice in the form of release-based movement material/sound, where you and the other dancers, engage with each other in different forms and with different expressions. You are encouraged to use your own personal knowledge and needs to find your own tools and paths under Teresia’s guidance. The method and workshop are meant as preparation for personal creation or preparation before a performance. The method works by continually building moment after moment, and depending on the number of peoplin the room, solos, duos, trios, etc. are created.

You can expect a workshop with high physical intensity, with room for expression and individual artistry and combined with space for reflection. The workshop is effective both as daily training, and as preparation for performance or preparing for one owns choreographic work.

The classes are held at Dansehallerne, Franciska Clausens Plads 27 DK-1799 Copenhagen V.

Dansehallerne has an elevator with step-free access to all floors. Accessible and gender-neutral toilets and wardrobes are available on the ground floor.

We kindly ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to class in time for check-in with the QR code on your ticket.

All members can participate in Dansehallerne’s training activities – a year-round program with approximately 5 days of training per week and now also workshops every other week. This is for all professional members regardless of background in dance training, and it is also possible to participate in a drop-in class.

International guests can participate in training for free for up to 1 month. If you have comments or good tips for the training program, you can always send an email to the curators; trainingcurator@dansehallerne.dk

Teresia Björk is one of the most established choreographers and dance artists in the country. For more than 35 years, she has created critically acclaimed performances in Sweden, Spain, Portugal, England, and the USA. She has also worked as a dancer and actress and has extensive experience in teaching, coaching, and collaborating with other artists. Her choreography is characterized by sensitivity, precision, and courage to express strong emotions beyond words. Awareness of the senses and stage presence are of crucial importance. For her, “daring to find nakedness” is an invitation to experience the moment with all senses, to be true to oneself, and to allow oneself to be emotionally affected. This invitation is extended to both the co-creating artists and the audience of the performance. Teresia Björk works with a personal and idiosyncratic style in a physically expressive dance tradition marked by meticulously developed choreography, craftsmanship, and dramaturgical sharpness. She draws inspiration from literature, music, and visual art – and also from everyday life with all its drama and existential experience. Her stage designs often rely on contrasts between darkness and light. They invite the viewer to rediscover the relationship between the everyday and the aesthetic. Artistically, she constantly challenges herself to take new steps and explore new forms of expression and themes, as well as new artistic constellations and collaborations.
