Alesya Dobysh
House dance & UK Jazz Fusion: Technique, Improvisation and Performative Practice

The workshop will be divided into several parts. First, students will work on the foundation of two club styles: House Dance and UK Jazz Dance. They will develop the ability to contain flow within the rhythmic structures of the footwork elements. In the second part of the session, Alesya will guide students in exploring the performative side of improvisation. She will share tools for deconstructing footwork elements into abstract movement language, which students can use in their personal artistic practice.

The classes are held at KU.BE, Dirch Passers Allé 4, 2000 Frederiksberg in studio: Zen 1.

How to get there?
Zen 1 is located on third floor, please use the backstairs to access the studio.
Go in via the main entrance on first floor, keep going straight ahead towards the changing rooms next to the climbing area on the first floor, open the door in the far end and go up the stairs until you arrive on the third floor. Zen 1 is through the door on your right side.

Accessibility requires a little extra preparation. The studios are equipped for wheelchair users. It is possible to use the lift for access up to the 3rd floor. If you wish to use this, please let us know in advance, as the studio you have to go through via the lift is sometimes booked.
We kindly ask you to meet up 15 minutes prior to class, so there is time for “self check in” with your QR code on the ticket.

Alesya Dobysh was born in Kostroma in 1989 and is a professional dancer, choreographer, and educator based in the Netherlands. She began her career in the street and club dance scene, where she cultivated a love for House dance culture that has formed the basis of her artistic pursuits. In her art, she is committed to experimenting with fusing subcultural backgrounds and unconventional forms of expression with performance art, theater, visual art, and sound art. One of her signature approaches involves deconstructing footwork-oriented techniques into an abstract language, which she uses to choreograph her works. Apart from her choreographic practice, Alesya is also an educator and an organizer. She brings her experience in various fields together to create an authentic practice that is grounded in her personal vision. Her work challenges established genre frames in her personal practice, as well as in educational and curatorial contexts.
