In this workshop you will first learn some vocabulary from the senegalese Sabar dance that we will further explore through choreography and improvisational exercises. There will be several opportunities to add your own dance expression to the exercises. We will dance mostly to different new African music, but very different music genres will be played in order to improve our musicality and explore how Sabar dance can be applied to any music genre.
Sabar dance can be danced culturally, spiritually, in dance studios as technique and as performance. In the workshop we will work mostly with Sabar dance as a technique and as performance.
A goal of the workshop is to create a space where we dive into Sabar dance as a technique and create a dance conversation using Sabar dance and all the dance vocabulary that you know already.
