Mark Philip
Floorwork and Contemporary Dance

Morning classes with Mark Philip is one of those hard-to-define, impossible-to-encapsulate experiences, that’s difficult to describe in a one-liner with a specific genre or technique.

Drawing on his practice from the capoeira training in his adolescence and experience as an avid breaker in his young adulthood, Mark has established a distinct style that fuses the acrobatics and dynamism of floorwork and power moves with contemporary dance.

You can expect to be in contact with the floor and in dialogue with your muscles; for your core to be the connection between the upper and lower body, that will often find itself in twisted and reversed positions. By seeing the world upside down, your perception will undoubtedly shift.

We’ll be breaking down Mark’s characteristic moves piece by piece (pun intended), and working on pairing the sensationalism of acrobatics with the sensibleness of contemporary dance – always with a focus on your personal body language and artistic expression.

Only as a member, you can take part in Dansehallerne’s training activities – a year-round program with approximately 5 days of training per week.
This is for all professional members no matter background in dance training, and it is possible to drop in✨
International guests can also join training for free for up to 1 month.

Mark Philip is a dancer, choreographer and co-director of Uppercut Dance Theater, alongside Stephanie Thomasen. He has been a dancer in the company since 2003, and in 2016 he started as artistic director. Mark Philip’s background in capoeira and break dance laid the foundation of what has since come to be known as Uppercut Dance Theater’s unique, contemporary expression.
