The Art of Detour(s) – entanglements and failures as artistic navigation

The conference takes place Friday, May 20, 2022, from 9.30 am – 5 pm at BaneGaarden/Copenhagen.

The deadline for signing up is May 6th

At THE ART OF DETOUR(S), we will investigate the expanded field of artistic strategies and practices working with site-specific and public art projects. Together we explore how art projects are framed, transformed, and entangled into local contexts and we will discuss how detours, in theory, and practice, can form new modes of resistance, community, and inclusiveness.

The aim of the conference is to expand our notion on the unforeseen and uncontrolled layers of artistic practice and explore detours, in art and life, as a way to uncover, and navigate within or beyond, dominating logics and discipline of society.

We invite artists, curators, producers, and people interested in the art- and culture field to take part in the conference containing art experiences, presentations, and dialogues.

The conference is accessible for people in wheelchairs. We aim to make the conference as accessible as possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, akk@dansehallerne.dk, if you have any support needs and we will do our best to meet them.

The background for the conference is the EU-project Centriphery (2019 – 2022) where nine organisations have been working together with 18 international artists from different disciplines, local artists, and citizens in developing participatory interdisciplinary art projects. Dansehallerne has carried out the danish project Sydhavn is buzzing in collaboration with Sydhavn Teater. The project was formed through residencies, workshops, and events with local artists and citizens of Sydhavn in autumn 2019, spring 2020, and autumn 2020.

The conference program is curated by Lasse Mouritzen (Sydhavn Teater) and Anna Katrine Korning (Dansehallerne) with artistic consultation from Ditte Vilstrup Holm (post.doc).

Ditte Vilstrup Holm has followed the project Sydhavn is buzzing and will at the conference do a presentation of her article Polyphony and latent communities in South Harbor – which engage with the question of how site-specific art projects work with communities outside the established spaces of art.
