Dance, climate emergency, sustainability: starting the conversation

PEER TO PEER| May 31 | from 5 – 7 pm | UNION

We have invited Micaela Kühn Jara to curate this peer encounter and together with Andreas Haglund and Ida-Elisabeth Larsen they will create a discussion and examination of the relations between ecology and dance from a practical perspective.

The aim is to share the questions we are busy with, open a dialogue, and see where this discussion leads us.

How/why to keep dancing in times of climate emergency? How do we connect land-based ecological practices to dancing and choreographic production work beyond eco metaphors? What else is beyond the managerial solutions toward sustainability?

Bios: Ida-Elisabeth Larsen is a Danish choreographer and a dramaturg. She graduated from SEAD in 2007 and continued to supplement her education with a BA in Philosophy and an MA in “Ecology and Contemporary Performance”. She is interested in ‘place’ as something that manifests through dynamic engagement. Andreas Haglund (He-him/They-them) works as a freelance dancer, performer, and choreographer around Copenhagen and Stockholm. When not performing for other artists they work on choreographies and texts that direct feelings, discourse, and practice towards spheres of care, joy, and interdependence. Micaela Kühn Jara works as an artistic producer, dramaturg, and facilitator in the fields of dance & choreography, with a special interest in participation. She freelances between Denmark and Germany and works as well at Den Danske Scenekunstskole. She is currently busy with questions related to sustainability/exhaustion and care. About PEER TO PEER Peer to Peer is an encounter program with professional conversations about artistic practice and life in the field of dance and choreography. We meet twice a month at Union, where we start with collegial mingling and a drink in the cafe and continue in a professional session facilitated by the day’s guest/s. The event will be in English. You don’t need to sign up – just show up. After the event, it will be possible to continue the conversations in the café, where you can buy your dinner (the kitchen closes at 7.30 PM). We regularly collect relevant themes and inspiration for the program, so feel free to send an email to Anna Katrine,, if you have good suggestions.
