The morning training in week 25 is curated in relation to thecarrierbag festival, which will take place at Fabrikken for Kunst og Design on the 23rd and 24th of June, where Luisa Fernanda Alfonso will present her piece Masterpiece. More info about the festival here.
This workshop is an enthusiastic sharing of the movement material from Luisa’s work “Masterpiece”. In “Masterpiece”, Luisa embodies a mariachi called Mr. Sancho. Mr. Sancho is an archetype of the stereotypical latino-macho characterized by the hyperdramatic and hypervirtuos qualities in Mariachi performers. Mr. Sancho emerges by fastly alternating between a series of specific movement references and visual languages such as: a flamenco performance from “La Singla”, Kazuo Ohno in “My Mother”, a 12 year old boy dancing in a film about Andalusian Gypsies, Luis Miguel performing “La Bikina”, The 012’s performing Asbestos lead Asbestos and Luisa’s work “Spectrum vs. Rectum”. In this three-days workshop, we will explore each one of these references and search for ways in which to embody your own Mariachi. One can expect a playful journey of attempts to copy, imitate and reproduce dance and theatrical material, a humorous and physically demanding experience accompanied by Mariachi music.
We kindly ask you to meet up 15 minutes prior to class, so there is time for “self check in” with your QR code on the ticket.
