Toniah’s teaching is built around the versatility within the genre of HipHop. Toniah’s style and way of choreographing are inspired by various genres within Afro-American cultural dance styles. Toniah merges the different elements of dance cultures to generate a more free dance language, so students are tasked with freestyling (without the battle element) and generating material for choreographies.
Toniah’s classes will be built around grooves, foundations, and party steps, focusing on the ease and playfulness in dance before the complicated. Toniah uses her own personal approach to build choreographies from her own freestyle language, which she is known for after many years in the industry.
The teaching is built around a good warm-up, after which Toniah will spend time dancing basic steps, foundations, party steps, and the ease of dancing freely. Students are encouraged to copy the instructor without judging their own process and approach to the various dance cultures.
Toniah will emphasize that students have the opportunity to rehearse, learn new things, and dance well through different genres within Afro-American cultural dances with foundations in jazz, Hip Hop, Breaking, etc.
Finally, Toniah will build choreographies and small series from her own freestyle language, which, in addition to challenging the students, should also encourage them to generate series based on Toniah’s methods. Toniah works from sharp lines, grooves, and a natural mix of genres to create space for simplicity.
The classes are held at KU.BE, Dirch Passers Allé 4, 2000 Frederiksberg in studio: Zen 1.
